You are Your Own Muse is a much loved E-Course that has helped hundreds of women discover that they can be their own muse, that they are indeed a photographer and that they get to decide the story that gets told and that they see in their self-portraits!
After 2 years of offering the course I have taken some time to redesign it as so much has changed in the world of photography since I began offering it! Fear not, it is only better, not dramatically different!
The Course:
You are Your Own Muse is a 6 Week Adventure into your artful self.
It is an invitation to explore your visual voice through self-portraiture, an adventure into documenting your life and telling your story.
The course explores using our camera and building our relationship to light in order to create images we feel confident stepping into.
It is also a playful adventure into redefining our relationship to our self-image, see ourselves in new ways and to create a powerful body of self-portrait images!
The Details:
This 6 week journey takes place online but you will find yourself gathering from women throughout the world to create a powerful community that will empower you to get brave and dive into self-portraiture. We’ll be having oh so much fun, you won’t be able to help but want to join in even if fear is trying to stop you!
- The classroom is a private blog space packed with inspirations and resources for you!
- There is also a private Flickr group where we share our photos and connect as a community.
- Each week in the class we explore a different theme and there will be daily invitations to explore the theme.
- You will also receive each daily post (Monday through Friday) in your inbox to make it easy to keep connected to the course content!

In this class we will explore being our own: Visual Narrator, Lighting Director, Stylist, Art Director, Model and Muse! We’ll take control of the way that we may look at photos of ourselves and playfully discover a new way of seeing ourselves. We’ll write a new story.
My approach as a teacher is accessible, playful, fun and empowering. My intention is to arm you with tools and experiments that will inspire you long after class is ended. In the 2 years of teaching this class, I have been so honoured to witness so many incredible photographers discover the muse in themselves.
You will also be encouraged and welcome to ask any questions that arise throughout these 6 weeks. It is my commitment to you to be available to you during this time to help you solve camera mysteries, to cheer you on, to help you get through blocks and to encourage you to be brave in the process!
Materials:
-A camera. We do explore empowering ourselves to get to know our cameras better and discuss how cameras work. So point and shoot, film cameras or DSLR’s are ideal for the course. What is most vital is an interest in learning about your own photographic voice, your camera and self-portraiture.
-You’ll also need internet access to both the flickr group and the classroom on a weekly basis
