The Rebel’s Guide to Falling in Love with Photography

 rebel3.500

Are you ready to fall in love with photography?  Or re-spark the love affair you once had with it?

Are you ready to learn about photography from your right brain? Your intuition? Your heart and not just your head?

Are you ready to create outside-the-box & magical images?

Then this is for you my friend!

In this class I will help you push past fear of not being the “perfect” photographer. You’ll be invited to shake up the rules of how one is supposed to take a picture and to discover the magic of making beautiful mistakes while discovering the creative photo-seeker in you.

This isn’t your typical photography class.  But this class is all about approaching photography and taking everyday images with playfulness that can’t help but lead to creating photographs that will take your breath away!

You are invited to try 15 different photography activities designed to spark magic through your camera and each activity will arrive in your inbox for 15 days after you register!

In the Rebel’s Guide to Falling in Love with Photography we will:

  • Shake up our ideas of what we think we need to know as photographers and tap in to what we already know as creative souls.
  • Do outside the box and oh so much fun activities for 15 days (but I think you’ll be using these tools long past the end of class)!
  • Add ourselves into a few photos during the class (and invite ourselves to look through the lens with kindness)
  • Experiment, explore, seek, try, be silly, and have so much fun.
  • Learn from experiencing and exploring.
  • Discovery that photography is fun and not to be feared!

Why is it the rebels guide? Well, because photography is full of rules and technicalities and that is exactly what kept me from exploring photography until only 8 years ago.  When I finally did discover my love for it, it was when I decided that I was going to ignore the rules and just get playful with a camera.

What happened was truly magical.  Photos appeared that I could have never thought out or planned and that made this rebel photographers heart sing!

Do you need to be a rebel to take this class?  Not at all…what you do need to be is ready to explore the unexpected, to try some outside-the-box activities and to explore photography experientially and from a right brain perspective.

This class is for:

  • Total beginners to photography who are craving to take more photos but could use some playful guidance
  • Folks wanting to add a bit of extra magic to your photographs
  • Are ready to shake of ‘perfection’ and open the door to a more creative approach
  • Are doing a photo a day project or a 52 weeks project and could use some outside-the-box inspiration

This class isn’t deeply technical.  What I do instead is to spark your love for photography by sharing 15 activities with you.  Many of them are based around some of the things you might be drawn to learn about in photography, but as an experiential learner…I need to get a real-life experience and images to inspire me to learn more and I wanted to offer some of the tools that helped me fall head over heels with photography with you!

FAQ

Is this class similar to your Rule-Free Photography class from a few years ago?

This class is indeed a new version of ‘Rule-Free Photography’ but revamped with a week of extra activities!  While all the other classes I teach are focused on self-portraiture as a tool for self-compassion, this was the one class that is outside of that focus that I have been craving to bring back as it was SO inspiring to teach and see the participants fall in love with their cameras!

Of course, there will be a self-portrait prompt in class (but I promise it will be gentle for those of you who have never taken a self-portrait)!

Okay, I’m worried I’m not much of a Rebel!  Can I take the class!

Oh yes, absolutely! You don’t have to have ever broken a rule in your life before.  This class is called the ‘Rebel’s Guide’ because we are breaking some of the rules of photography.  We are going to do activities that are opposite of what you might be taught in a typical photography class.  What it does is help get you out of your left brain in terms of how you learn photography and into a playful, right brain approach.

This approach is great for getting left-brainers out of their head, but also serves right brainers who are looking for a type of class that speaks to them.  So yes, you don’t need to be a Rebellious type to take part…but you do need to be ready to get playful and have fun!

Will I learn about technical things in this class?

Yes and No!  No because it isn’t a specifically technical class.  But YES because many of the activities are derived from the ‘rules’ of photography but brought to you in a playful, experiential way.  So you will experience many of the technical aspects of your camera in a playful way.

What I have found is that if we begin with the technical it traps us into a very left brain approach to photography and often gets the perfectionist in us feeling we haven’t got it ‘right’.  This approach is designed to get us out of that perfectionist mode and just have fun.  For me, the fun led to SO much technical learning but it started with my heart, not my head!  I hope this approach will work for you too (I have a feeling it will)!

I will also be available to answer your technical questions during the class!

Its the middle of winter right now and I worry there won’t be enough to take photos of.  Will you be offering it in the summer when it is sunnier and I can get outside more?

This class is available for you to take at any time that works for you!  Yet I do encourage you not to only take it when the conditions seem perfect as it can be a powerful spark of inspiration in a season when perhaps you might not be feeling inspired!  Break the rules that you have about only taking photos in sunny or summer months as photography is truly something we can get playful with any day of the year (or at any time that is right for you).  But you don’t need to be in summer or a sunny season to take this class!
