You are Your Own Muse Whistler ~ Part Two

This weekend in Whistler was:

  • Waking up early, full of nervous energy about the day ahead, calming myself by strolling around the village in the blissful quiet of the morning.
  • Playful fun photo wanderings to parks, forests, the farmers market, the lake and around the village as part of the workshop.
  • Daily gelato (it was so hot, it was a must).
  • A lovely gathering of students who’s joyful energy and openness to my quirky way of teaching was a total treat.
  • A sense of awe of the mountains and how beautiful this province I live in.
  • Incredible gluten free food.
  • Wandering to the lake each day after my workshop, for a swim.
  • Taking pictures of the gorgeous flowers on the pathway home from the lake.
  • A beautiful balance of my days being full of connection and creation and my evenings being all about solo wanderings and photo taking.

It was really an honour to be asked to do this workshop and I’m so grateful for the collection of folks who ended up coming.  It was a small group but we all agreed it must have been meant to be as we really enjoyed having time to connect and for there to be much more one on one support than would be possible with a larger group.

Thanks to the fabulous and helpful Whistler Arts Council for having me be a part of their Workshops on the Lake Series (there are a few more workshops running this summer if you are craving a spontaneous trip to Whistler this month).

Here are a few Instagram shots from the weekend:

Getting Grounded (but loving the Dizziness)

In my Nia Dance class, we often twirl so much that we get dizzy.  I love the spinning, twirling but then it all catches up with me and I need to ground.  So we jump up and down, feet flat on the ground until we return to a non-spinning state.

I’m feeling like that right now in general.  I feel like life has been a whirlwind, twirling off on all sorts of awesome adventures and now that I’m home I’m craving for the world to stop spinning and to feel grounded.

Since the beginning of June I’ve been on all sorts of adventures that I want to share.  The Your Story Retreat, the Vancouver stop of the Jumpstart Creativity Tour, this last weekend at the World Domination Summit and then zooming home to shoot the wedding of two dear friends (which was so darn dreamy).  So I have lots to share and catch up on.

At the same time, there is lots of good ahead: Folk Fest (aka my 3 favourite days of the year), an island adventure, my bday, Illuminaries Festival and more.  I feel really grateful that it seems like I will actually have the chance to settle into summer this year.

So for today, I thought I’d share some tales of these recent adventures…

Fave iPhone Apps

So, I’ve had my iPhone for almost 2 years now.

In the first month I had it, I downloaded pretty much every iPhone Photography App that sounded great.  Then I had this way too full iPhone and I realized that there were really only a few that I loved and that I use regularly.

So I thought I’d share which ones those are and why they are the bees knees.

Together

We hadn’t been all together in a year and a half.

Then we got one week, all together.

Last night after an 8 hour train ride I arrived back home from my holiday week in Portland, Oregon with all of my immediate family and my fabulous nephew and brother in law.

I spent much of the week with either a camera on my iphone in front of me.  I wanted to capture this all so we could have images to get us through til our next visit and to tell the story of this one.

Some of my favourite moments of this last week (and a half…I got a few days with my folks and my brother here in Vancouver) were:

~My nephew’s dancing skills.  Not only can he rock out with this impressive clapping-and-running-at-the-same-time but he gets us all to join in (whether we are in public or not).  He calls us all into the dance party one by one and before we know it we are all dancing to Rhianna in a restaurant.  He’s charming like that.

~Christmas day.  It was so good.  A yummy breakfast all together and then the opening of presents.  A family walk in Mount Tabor (despite the rain) and an incredible dinner with many of the dishes I grew up eating each xmas at my great-grandparents farm.  We all pitched in with cooking which meant it wasn’t all on one person, which felt important.  We ended the day with desert and a walk at Peacock Lane.

~Simplicity.  I love that my family doesn’t go wild at christmas with presents.  We have a family draw and get one person to buy for at a reasonable price limit.  Gifts rock, but the best gift really was being together.

~Christmas Eve books.  This is by far my favourite part of Christmas.  I think the tradition of getting a xmas eve book started so my parents wouldn’t have to get up at the crack of dawn christmas day as we would then have books to keep us busy until at least 7am!  Now having a bit of fiction to devour feels like a big part of the holidays to me. This year one of my books was The Hunger Games which I completely devoured on the train yesterday and just finished this morning.  I love a good series and I will confess that part of my day will be buying the next book in the trilogy.

~Getting time with each of my family.  My brother lives on the other end of the country and I hadn’t seen him in a year and a half.  Skype rocks for keeping in touch but there is really nothing like getting a whole week together.  I get more time with my sister, brother in law and nephew and see my folks a couple times a year. I’m making plans to go back east to Ontario this year and see more family.  My life here in Vancouver is great in so many ways but it is hard living so far away from family.

How was your holidays?  Your celebrations?  What was your favourite moment of the last week?
